Emergency Recovery:

BGS took the initiative to implement rehabilitation and recovery program in 1991 for the cyclone affected people in the remote villages of Cox’s Bazar district. It was a huge attempt to operate the rehabilitation program in Island areas of Moheshkhali Upazila. The rehabilitation program included construction of low-cost house, construction of cyclone shelter centre, construction and repairing of mosque, Hindu mondir, Buddhist temple, construction and repairing of school, madrasa and community centre, distribution tube-well, distribution of sapling etc. BGS distributed more than 7000 low-cost houses in Matarbari and Dhaghata unions. A total 20 mosque, 10 Hindu temple, 4 high schools, 5 Buddhist pagodas and 4 cyclone shelters were fully built, and many schools and community centre were repaired and renovated in the different areas of Cox’s Bazar. As part of rehabilitation activities, BGS also constructed 50 Rakhine house in Cox’s Bazar sador area and 40 Chakma houses in the Monkhali village under Ukhiya Upazila. BGS constructed 5 extended building of schools and college in the areas of Kalarmarchara, Cox’s Bazar Sador and Ukhiya. BGS also initiated to clean and renovate damaged pond, and distributed tube-wells for drinking water.
