BGS Mangrove Plantation Site
Since its inception, Bangla-German Sampreeti (BGS) has been actively engaged in addressing climate change and promoting environmental preservation in vulnerable regions of Bangladesh, particularly in coastal and climate sensitive areas such as Cox’s Bazar and adjoining districts. Recognizing the increasing risks of rising temperature, erratic rainfall, salinity intrusion and natural disasters, BGS has adopted a community centered and sustainable approach to climate action.
BGS has implemented a range of initiatives focused on climate awareness, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and the promotion of climate resilient livelihoods. These include community training sessions on climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture practices, water conservation and waste management. The organization has also prioritized afforestation including mangrove plantation and reforestation programs, contributing to carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation while reducing the impacts of soil erosion and extreme weather events.

In collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies and development partners, BGS has facilitated the installation of safe drinking water solutions, promoted renewable energy practices and supported environmentally friendly income generating activities (IGAs) for marginalized communities, including women and youth along with people with disable (PWD).
Over time, BGS has strengthened local capacities by forming community-based groups and enhancing their participation in environmental decision-making processes. These efforts have not only improved environmental sustainability but also enhanced resilience and adaptive capacity among vulnerable populations.

BGS implemented several climate change and environment preservation related projects in BGS commend area, especially in Cox’s Bazar districts. At present BGS implementing a project namely “Environmental Preservation and Livelihood Improvement for the Poor and Vulnerable Families of Matarbari Area through Capacity Building” funded by LIFE, France. The main objectives of this project is to Developed Climate Resiliency and Sustainable Livelihood Improvement of the Poor and Climate Vulnerable Households of Matarbari and sub-objects are i). Plantation of 32,000 mangrove plants on 2-3 kms in sea shore area in Matarbari, ii). Establishment of Village Model Farm for sapling production & IGA, iii). Introduction of four types of Income generating Activities for 100 HHs and iv). Developing awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate change and biodiversity etc.
Moving forward, BGS remains committed to scaling up its climate actions by integrating innovative solutions, strengthening partnerships and contributing to national and global climate goals for a greener and more resilient future.
