The Health and Nutrition program contributes comprehensive health awareness and preventive support activities to the target population. This program was started from the beginning and it being continued to serve the poor and outreach families and communities. BGS has been implementing the program on priority of community needs, and accordingly its implementation methodologies have developed based on the perspective of the target population. To implement the field-based program delivery, BGS deploys MBBS Doctors, Health Workers, Health Promoters and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) as frontline staff.
Since 2006, BGS is operating a Primary health care and pathology center which is established in the BGS own land and campus at Matarbari under Moheshkhali Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district and funded by Lichtbrucke (LB), German. Mainly this center is providing curative Health Care Service, child delivery and Mother & child health care. This center is running by a full-time MBBS doctors (one male and one female doctors), Sub Assistant Community Medical Officer (SACMO), two Skill Birth Attendants (SBAs) and a Medical Technician (Lab.). Each year about 12000 patients are getting medical service under this BGS Primary health care and pathology center. In recent year (2022-2023) BGS build a newly two stories building as BGS Health and Pathology Center in the own campus at Matarbari funded by the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh for providing a betterment service and facilities to the community people.
Since 2015, BGS is providing Community-Based Health Outreach Program (CHOP) at Camp level and host community at Taknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district which is funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The project is implementing a set of activities, such as, identify and referral, (immunization, ANC, PNC, nutrition services), identify and refer danger signs of pregnancy, defaulter tracing, referral, vaccination of pregnant women, follow-up pregnant women and activities related to PHC services (General clinical services, Child health services, Maternal and New-born health services, Communicable & Non-Communicable diseases including providing basic first aid and psychological first aid), notification new-born including acute malnutrition and referral, collection of mortality and morbidity information, mapping & profiling of pregnant mothers & referral, ensure ANC/PNC and referral, identify CD & NCD and referral, identification and referral of patients with severe mental health conditions and follow-up etc. A total of 102 Community Health Workers and Community Health Volunteers are directly involved in the implementation process and mechanism; health education and awareness through HH visits, courtyard sessions, conduct individual counselling and community sessions, linking building to health facilities, community mobilization etc. A total of 2, 69,521 target beneficiaries in the project catchment areas.
