Youth force is the means through which the country replenishes in its values and culture. They have an important role to play in the current and future social, political and economic development of the country. They can act as a major agent for the socio-economic development of the country. Youths constitute one third of the total population of Bangladesh, for this important portion of the population, it is critical that a national outlook is determined in order to harness and utilize their true potential.
BGS has been working for the development of children and youths through different integrated approaches of development projects. Mainly BGS started their youth development work through skill development by Vocational Training in their own Vocational Training Centers in Cox’s Bazar, Rangpur and Tangail districts since 1994. From beginning and up to now approximately 27,000 youths received vocational training under several trades, among them 75% youths employed in several companies and rest of youths involved in their self-employment.
In the recent past, BGS successfully implemented a three year ‘Youth Development and Social Cohesion’ project inclusively dedicated for youth development with different interventions and involved at least 5,500 youths with the social incentive and voluntarism by the youth.
Similarly, with the support and collaboration of World Vision Bangladesh, BGS has been implementing a long-term partnership project (minimum 12 years) called “Area Program” which a holistic child development program. During the reporting period the project involved at least 2,500 children and their families of Baharchara union of Teknaf Sadar and Baharchara unions of Teknaf Upazila.
